Frequently asked questions
And if yours is not here, ask us — we answer questions we do not profit from.
Does a brokerage cost me more than going direct?
No. The price of a policy is set by the insurer and is the same whether you buy through us or directly. Our commission is paid by the insurer, out of that same premium.
Do I need private health insurance to live in Spain?
If you are applying for a non-lucrative or digital nomad visa, yes — and with specific conditions: full cover, no co-payment, with a Spanish-authorised insurer. If you work and contribute in Spain you have public cover, and private insurance then becomes a choice about speed and comfort.
Can I be insured if I already have a medical condition?
Often yes, with that condition excluded, and sometimes fully covered after a period. It depends on the insurer and the condition. Declare it — an undeclared condition is the fastest way to have a claim refused.
How long are the waiting periods?
Typically immediate for GP and emergencies, a few months for specialist procedures and surgery, and eight to ten months for maternity. Some visa policies start immediately. We tell you per quote.
Is dog liability insurance really compulsory?
Yes, since Ley 7/2023 it applies to every dog in Spain, not only to the breeds on the potentially dangerous list. Most of our pet policies include it.
Will my pet be refused because of age or breed?
Rarely refused outright. Older animals and certain breeds cost more or have a lower annual limit. We look for the insurer who is comfortable with yours.
Can I cancel or switch policy?
Yes. Spanish policies renew annually and must be cancelled with at least one month's notice. We track your renewal dates and warn you before the deadline.
In which languages can I be advised?
English and Spanish as standard, French on request. Your policy documents themselves will be in Spanish — we go through them with you.
